Pokus:
My weekly cartoon, Pokus, ran in The Hamilton Spectator in 1978-79. I worked in the advertising art department and took it up to then features editor, Rob Austin.
It appeared next to Jim Unger’s “Herman” each Saturday.
That was a rush.
The first “Pokus” along with the write up.
“Then again, it could be dust in the camera.”
Notice the crazy line break on the word “electricty”.
These were the days before pagination. You were at the mercy of the back shop to set type. Explains why I was so thrilled when computers gave me the ability to make all the mistakes myself!
“You idiot. No wonder my shirts are full of electricity!”
The name “Pokus” was short for poking fun at us'
